We’re lucky to have so many great options in Lake County that take the hassle out of birthday parties for mom and dad. With so many choices, where do you start? That’s why we’ve created the Ultimate Lake County Guide to Birthdays! Over the next several weeks we will share listings of tried-and-true birthday party locations, as well as several you may not have heard of. You are sure to find a spot to fit your child’s taste all while keeping your house clean and your sanity intact.

Neil Estrick Gallery, Grayslake (847) 223-1807
Local artist and father of two, Neil Estrick opens his ceramics studio to the public for art classes for children and adults alike.  Graduate from play-doh and host a birthday party in his studio.  The 1 1/2 hour party provides instruction for the children to create their own clay project and includes all supplies and firings. Creativity explodes at this play studio in Glenview where they say yes to the mess!  Parents can relax while children take part in hands-on art activities like the popular Bubble’ology, Drum Roll or the Splat-tacular Tables.  Classes, memberships, and field trips are also available.

Several party packages and rooms are available for varying size parties and food offerings.  All parties last 90 minutes and every guest will receive their own picture frame that they paint along with a group photo for lasting memories. Located inside Westfield Hawthorn Shopping Center, The Painted Penguin is a paint and take ceramics and plaster studio.  Take the kids for a rainy day excursion or to ward off a case of the mall crankies.  Children select a piece, you pay, they paint.

For birthdays, several packages are available both on-site and in your own home.  Children can paint, make beaded bracelets or even do a Dino Dig! The birthday child receives a certificate to come back for a free plaster penguin and painting lesson. Get social with The Painted Penguin on Facebook.

A creative arts workshop where people of all ages can get crafty.  Sign up for a workshop, class, summer camp, or schedule your own private event.

Birthday parties are for children ages 7 and up.  Select a craft project for your guests to create from a wide array of choices. Upcycle everyday materials like duct tape, magazine pages, or t-shirts and turn them into bags, picture frames, and necklaces. Owned and operated by local artist and mom Vicki Tucker, Artist @ Heart offers a variety of art and crafts, classes, workshops, and party space for kids and adults.

Several packages are available for children’s parties on-site, but they do deliver  paint-your-own-pottery for at-home parties.  Each party lasts 90 minutes, includes all supplies and instruction, and a keepsake Handprint Party Plate for the guest of honor complete with guest thumb prints and signatures.  What a great way to remember a special day!
