With four kids that range in age from 2-10 we don’t go out to the movies very often. Aside from the cost it’s nearly impossible to find a movie that is family friendly and appropriate for everyone with such a wide-spread. I recently got to attend a sneak preview of Shaun the Sheep and I can safely say, this was the best, most family friendly movie I have ever seen.
While I only took my two oldest (8 and 10) to this showing because of the time we plan to see it as a family in theaters soon. Shaun the Sheep is released by Lionsgate and is from Aardman Animation, creators of Wallace and Gromit. We are huge fans of Wallace and Gromit and my kids love, like uproariously laughing love, good old fashion slapstick comedy. This comedy does not disappoint.
A quick synopsis of the story:
When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets a little more action than he bargained for. A mix up with the Farmer, a caravan, and a very steep hill lead them all to the Big City and it’s up to Shaun and the flock to return everyone safely to the green grass of home.
As you can imagine all sorts of chaos ensues when a flock f sheep invade a big city. My kids laughed through the whole thing. I loved how it was done with out dialogue, much like Wall-E. The animals don’t talk and the people are more like the Peanuts parents only more intelligible. It meant there was no worry about covering little ears or about explaining pop culture references. Don’t worry parents, they sneak in pop culture references that you will love and have you giggling while the kids look on confused.
My kids loved it and while there is no dialogue we had a great conversation about the lesson that the grass is not always greener on the other side and sometimes you don’t realize how good you have it until it’s gone.
Check out the trailer and get your tickets to see it this weekend!
Disclosure: I received tickets to a screening of the movie to facilitate my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
