Melissa and Loralie have partnered with Advocate Condell Medical Center Centre Club to spend the next year working to achieve their health goals. They’ll be documenting their steps to get Movin’ and Improvin’ and be fit by 40. This is not a weight loss series, this is a journey towards health. Read the series introduction to learn more. Today we hear from Melissa…
Summer has not been good to my #Fitby40 goals. Aside from all the yummy treats of summer (ice cream anyone?) I had four kids home, plus travel and work…next thing you know it’s the end of August and you can’t remember when you were last at the gym.
I was expecting “looks,”questions, tsking when I finally dragged my (now squishier) butt back in (school FTW!)
It was like a homecoming. The kids’ room attendants greeted us with smiles and applauds on hearing about potty training. As I walked in, I was greeted with exuberant Hello’s! Welcome back! and Go Get ’em’s!
This friendly community atmosphere is one of my favorite things about Centre Club. It feels like a community center with all type and shapes of people while offering all the classes and amenities of a large private club. It’s the best of both worlds!
This fall I’m looking forward to falling back into the rhythm and routine of working out. In fact, I’m going to push myself out of my comfort zone and try some classes. I really loved barre fitness when I tried it a few years ago and Centre Club offers it! I am also super interested in TRX and want to give that a try as well.
Aside from classes, which there are a ton of, both Libertyville and Gurnee offer loads of free, fun, family programing. We just visited Gurnee for their Touch-a-Truck event:
- BBQ & Apple Festival – Saturday September 10
- Barre Brawl – Barre and Kickboxing event – September 15
- Centre Club Cycle-thon for the American Heart Association – September 17
- Wine Glass painting – Tuesday September 27
- Halloween Costume Parade – Monday October 31
And check out how much fun they had in Gurnee just this last week with a Taste of Haiti cooking demo and tasting. It sounds so cliche, but there really is always something going on! Most events are open to the public as well as members. Follow-them on Facebook for up to date event information or call the front desk of the club to register.
The whole community is invited to join Centre Club at the Mundelein Seminary on Saturday October 22 for the Pink Ribbon Run. This family-friendly run offers a One Mile or 5K that is stroller-friendly around the beautiful scenic views of fall at the Seminary, not normally open to the public. The first 300 registrants will get a race jacket, everyone will have free food and beverages at the event and a one week membership to Centre Club.
Centre Club is more than a gym or fitness center. It’s a community focused on helping all its members lead a more fit and active life. I love being a part of it.
