Mompreneur Monday: Miss Jamie From The Farm

Mompreneur of the MonthWelcome to Mompreneur Monday, where we introduce you to Mom-Based businesses in Lake County.

Today, we are featuring Mompreneur Jamie “Miss Jamie” Blythe, an actress/country singer turned Mom/Children’s Music Performer.

Perfect for preschoolers, Miss Jamie and her puppet friends from the farm take the kids on a magical barnyard adventure that teaches healthy eating and happy (sustainable) farming in a singalong dance along show that leaves children and parents alike stomping their boots and hollering for more.

When did you realize you had such a talent for music?

I’ve been singing in front of audiences since I was 10.

How do you balance your life as a mom and as a country singer?

I get by with a little help from my friends! And most of the time, if I’m performing as Miss Jamie, my daughter comes with me.

What is the most challenging part?

The hardest part of my job as a children’s performer is making sure I have reliable childcare for my own 20 month old daughter for each show, and believe me it’s a random, hectic, ever changing schedule.   I like for her to come to the shows, because she loves to participate and get the other kids up and dancing, but that means I have to have someone there at all of them to keep an eye on her in case she needs some extra attention. Many of my fans would tell you how cute it is when I’ve picked her up or worn her in a sling while I play, but after about 30 minutes, it’s not so cute for my aching back!

Where do you see your music taking you?

Hopefully my own TV show!

What do you do to recharge?

To relax and recharge I love to cook while watching Hulu or Netflix on my phone or iPad. After a big run of multi-show days for several days in a row, I need time to be alone, not talk, and kind of veg out. Cooking while watching a movie or show just does it for me, because I’m still being productive but I get to have a little fun too 😉

Who is your biggest musical influence?

The writers and directors of Sesame Street. It’s Such a hilarious show and the music is awesome too.

What is your favorite part of your job

What I love most is seeing a shy kid come out of his or her shell as the show progresses, and by the end, they’re jumping up and down and singing and dancing like a little superstar. Kids need to be encouraged to play and imagine, and I’m glad to be able to take them on that magical journey for a small part of their day.

What is the most important thing you want our readers to know?

Kids make habits at a young age. My goal is to instill in them a sense of responsibility for knowing where their food comes from and ensuring the health and safety of animals and plants on farms everywhere. I do it with a really light touch, but amidst the singing and dancing, the kiddos do come away with new-found knowledge and the pride of being a “Forever Farmhand”
