Summertime, and the living is easy… especially when there’s a new ice cream spot in town! Recently I had the “rough” task of trying out the newest location of My Flavor It! Place in Libertyville. With locations in Lake Zurich (original), Wauconda, and Palatine, this family-run business is growing and it’s easy to see and taste why!
My Flavor It! Place is not your average ice cream shop. In fact, I was so intrigued by the unique options, I had a lot more questions than I usually do at an ice cream place, and the employees were more than happy to guide me! The focus here is on delicious, real dairy soft-serve in various forms, and the stand-out feature is the real Hawaiian shaved ice available in over 35 real-sugar flavors and a handful of sugar-free ones as well. This is not the sno-cone of our youth (you remember — hard and crunchy with little flavor). The shaved ice here is soft, refreshing and the flavor options are almost endless. Since there are a couple of other soft-serve shops in Libertyville, we decided our first taste test here would be the shaved ice. Two of my daughters chose the pink cotton candy junior cup. Definitely not my choice of flavor, but it was very tasty and my girls loved it! My other daughter chose a junior cup peach-flavored shaved ice with soft serve vanilla ice cream on the bottom and inside. Imagine a peaches and cream dreamsicle that exploded into a fluffy cloud…that’s what it was! The cup itself was small, but just look at what magic was handed to us!
In addition to the shaved ice and soft serve (seriously, you must try this combination), they have all the classics, most served with a bit of a twist. Slushees, Brainfreeze (a slushee blended with vanilla ice cream), blended flavored ice cream cups (up to three flavors, your choice), milkshakes, smoothies, cones, floats, ice cream sundaes, candy toppings, banana splits, and ice cream blended coffee. If you need a little ying to all the sweet, delicious yang, they have jumbo soft pretzels for the salt lovers!
The Libertyville shop is in a great location right on the main strip of Milwaukee Avenue, just south of the train station and across the street from The Liberty Theater. Park in the lot or garage on Lake Street, or if you’re lucky like us, there is street parking. The shop is clean, bright and has five nice tables with chairs, as well as benches and high chairs. There are also tables outside on the patio/sidewalk. One of my daughters has a peanut and tree nut allergy, and they were so helpful and accommodating with the best choices for us.
My Flavor It! Place is definitely a super-cool place (pun intended) and we can’t wait to go back to test out all of the other fun combinations and options this summer! Hope to see you there!
