Little Reviews: Fire Safety Expo at Gurnee Mills

This is a personal experience from the 2015 event, your experience may vary. See calendar for this years event date and times.

Having two little boys brings a lot of love for big trucks, superheroes, and shiny lights. That’s why we look forward to going to the Fire Safety Expo at Gurnee Mills every year to learn more about firefighters.

Our little ones were six months and two years old the first time we took them to the event. The oldest had a lot of fun exploring several of the fire trucks from local stations that were parked in the mall parking lot. Local area fire departments held several demonstrations throughout the day. There was also a water tank with divers, a mini obstacle course for the kids to run through, and more fun activities than I can honestly remember.

Everyone’s favorite part of the day was riding on the back of the fire truck around the mall parking lot. My oldest still talks about it two years later.

Due to the nature of the event, there were a lot of loud noises and flashing lights. The only downside was the sensory overload experienced by our toddler while walking past some of the demonstrations. The Fire Safety Expo offers many educational booths, fun games for all ages, fingerprinting kits, and much more!
