If you have a young daughter, odds are that you are immersed in the world of American Girl. The dolls, the outfits, the accessories…it can all get a bit overwhelming at times (and expensive!), but you have to hand it to them for providing our girls with positive messages, helpful information, and a dose of history now and then.
For many of us, having a daughter who loves the dolls, also means reading along as the characters’ stories unfold. Whether we are riding horses with Felicity, watching a “moving picture” with Rebecca, turning and leaping on the balance beam with McKenna, or exploring old time New Orleans with Marie Grace, the dolls’ stories have ultimately captivated our daughters’ attention, and most likely, ours as well.
Encouraging our daughters to read and delight in the stories is surely an accomplishment of American Girl, and now some local libraries are joining in on the fun. Starting this month, two local libraries are starting an American Girl book club where girls from ages 6-12 can take part in a story time, crafts and activities that pertain to an American Girl character. Girls are sure to enjoy their time learning about one of the characters while sharing their mutual love for all things American Girl. They even get to bring their doll along for the fun!
Check your local library to see if they are hosting a book club in your area.
