Little Lake County Family Guide to St. Patrick’s Day

veryone is a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. However, you don’t have to travel to the city or step foot in an Irish bar this March to have some St. Patrick’s Day fun with your little leprechauns. Lake County is full of story times, festivals, parades, and more for the whole family to enjoy, and we have rounded them up in a list just for you.

Antioch Public Library, Antioch
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by making a fun holiday-themed slime! For tweens ages 7-12.

St. Patrick’s Day Fun * registration required *

Waukegan Public Library
Take part in a variety of wacky St. Patrick’s Day Activities. For kindergartners through second grade.

Shamrock Wreath Story & Craft *registration required*
March 11, 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. 

Antioch Public Library District, Antioch
Listen to some stories about shamrocks and make a fun shamrock craft afterward! For children ages 3-7.

Pot of Gold Slime *registration required*
March 12, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Fremont Public Library, Mundelein
Make your own batch of slime to take home. For children in grade 3-5.

10th Annual Barrington Celtic Fest
March 15 – March 17

McGonigal’s Pub & The Loft, Barrington
This annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration stretches over two days in the heart of downtown Barrington! The celebration is focused on food, drink, fun and families are encouraged to attend during the day time house. Sunday is Family day.

Shamrock the Block
March 15 – 17
Wauconda
Events all weekend long including a Leprechaun plunge and Community Shaving event to support St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Live music all weekend at Middleton’s on Main. See website for full schedule of events.

St. Paddy’s Rainbow Cupcakes * registration required*
March 16 & March 17, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. 
Taste Buds Kitchen, Bannockburn
$30 per child with one caregiver included.
Come cook with TBK and learn how to make an oh-so-delicious cupcake with rainbow colors in the cake. For children ages 2-8 with a caregiver.

How to Catch a Leprechaun Storytime

Join Barnes & Noble to get your official leprechaun name, become a master limerick writer, learn how to leprechaun-proof your home, and take home fun giveaways

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
March 16, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Steps off from Palombi School, 133 McKinley Ave., Lake Villa
The parade begins at noon, followed by the annual corned beef and cabbage luncheon at the VFW.

St. Patrick’s Day Fun
March 16, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Dunbar Recreation Center, Mundelein
Cost: $10 residents, $15 non-residents
Wear green and join the park district for games, activities, crafts, and fun.
For children ages 3 – 11.

St. Patrick’s Cookies and Crafts *registration required*
March 16, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. 
Pepper Park Coffee, Lake Barrington
Cost: $25 per child
Children can create edible pretzel treats, decorate and color coolies plus create a fun craft. Wear green for special prizes. For ages 3 and older.

12th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Pot Luck
March 16, 4:00 – 11:00 p.m. 
Byron Colby Barn, Grayslake
Bring a dish,dessert, or drink to share as you are entertained by Prairie Fogg. This is a free family event.

St. Patrick’s Day Party
March 16, 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. 
Bella’s Bouncies Skate on Grand, 720 E. Grand Ave., Fox Lake
Cost is $10 per person/$15 per couple includes admission, skate rental,
Dress as a leprechaun and your admission is FREE. Enjoy games, a bounce house, a “selfie” photo booth, festive drinks and more.

St. Patrick’s Day Party

Rockin’ St. Patrick’s Day
March 17, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Rockin’ Jump, Buffalo Grove
Parent and first child, $10.
There will be arts and crafts for the kids and sweets and coffee for the adults. Kids can play on hundreds of trampolines and jump with our leaping leprechaun.

St. Patrick’s Day Party

Adults: $15 Kids: $8
Featuring the Trinity Irish dancer, cash bar, and a full meal this is a very Irish way to celebrate the holidays.
