September Festivals in Lake County

18 September – Autumn Fest, Heller Nature Center
Free Admission, some activities have charges – cash only. Celebrate the bounty of the season with crafts, games, self-guided nature walks, pony rides, hayrides, a campfire, live reptiles, a pumpkin hunt and more! Food will be available for purchase.

19 & 20 September – Long Grove Oktoberfest
Join in the celebration of Long Grove’s heritage by enjoying authentic German food, Oktoberfest beer tents, live entertainment featuring German bands, free hayrides throughout town, and more.

19 September – One World Festival, Kracklauer Park, Mundelein
Free admission and parking. World celebration of food and drink. Come celebrate our cultural diversity! Music, dance, games, education and kids’ fun.

19 September – ArtWauk, Waukegan Arts District
A monthly celebration of arts in the Arts & Entertainment District in Waukegan. Each month this event showcases different art and artists at over 20 venues, offering free access to each site and a chance to meet the artists.

19 September O-Fest in Hawthorn Woods, St. Matthew Lutheran Church & School
Plenty of activities for the whole family. Enjoy hayrides, carnival games, competitive games, arts and crafts, pony hops and grilled food and beverages.

19 September Harvest Fest, St. Mary of the Annunciation, Mundelein
Bring the family out for some great food and fun. Enjoy playing games such as apple bobbing and sack races, and more.

20 September – Shermerfest, Northbrook Village Green
Take a step back in time at this fun-filled community fall festival. Includes hot dogs, chips and soda, face painting and balloon twisting. Plus, make old-fashioned games and ride on a trackless train.

20 September – Fallapalooza, Heritage Park, Wheeling
Free admission, nominal fee for some activities and concessions.  Live music, petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, and hayrides.

20 September – Flying for Kids Kite Fly, Mike Rylko Park, Buffalo Grove
Chicago Kite is going to be out with enormous kites as well as stunt kites. Bring your kites and enjoy this day full of games, face paint, prizes and fun.

25 – 27 September – Long Grove Apple Festival
Admission: $5 adults, children 12 and younger are free. Enjoy the beautiful fall outdoor ambiance while participating in the many activities offered, including free live music throughout the historic village, pony rides, apple pie eating contests and more.

26 September Fall Festival Pig Roast, Wadsworth Park
Bring the family out for a free concert in the park at Wadsworth Park. Also enjoy horse drawn hayrides and a bonfire.

26 & 27 September Farm Heritage Festival, Lakewood Forest Preserve, Wauconda
Admission: $10 adults, $5 youth (ages 4–17) per person per day, includes Museum admission. Highlights include daily sheep herding and threshing demonstrations, live music, and a tractor parade. 26 September Fall Fest, Viking Park, Gurnee
Free admission. Family-friendly festival featuring kids games, crafts, electric train ride, petting zoo, musical entertainment, hay rides and food for purchase.

26 September Oktoberfest, Vernon Hills Metra Station
Annual community fall fest features free inflatables, kids crafts, pumpkin decorating, hay rides, raffles and food for sale.

26 & 27 September – Art in the Barn, Good Shepard Hospital, Barrington
Fine art on display and ready for purchase to take home. Kids can enjoy a petting zoo and feed the animals or create their own art in the Children’s Art Tent.

27 September Family Fall Fest- Lake County JCC, Lake Zurich
Admission: $25 per family. Hayrides, petting farm, hands-on exploration of the Garoon Gateway to Science, make & fly your own kite, Snack in the Sukkah, crafts, Israeli dancing and more!

27 September- Friends of Waukegan Kite Fly, Waukegan Municipal Beach
Come fly away with Chicago Kite/Kite Harbor and The Friends of Waukegan, We will enjoy watching amazing kite stunts, tricks and flips Super Large Kites By Mike Holl. Wisconson Kiters will be on hand too.

October Festivals in Lake County

2 & 3 October- Harmony and Harvest Fest, Ravinia District
Free admission. Event will feature live music, drum circles, an instrument petting zoo and interactive vendors.

3 October – Fall Festival on the Farm, Prairie Crossing’s Yellow Farmhouse, Grayslake
Free admission. Hayrides, hands-on educational activities, farm stand and more.

3 October Harvest Fest, Kalk Park, Glencoe
Free admission. Celebrate the harvest at one of the best community spirit events of the year! Family friendly games, attractions, entertainment, and food.

3 & 4 October Fall Bulb Festival, Chicago Botanic Garden
Amid live music, children of all ages can admire the gourd display, find their way around the straw-bale maze, and participate in family activities. Admission is free, standard parking rates apply.

4 October Fall Festival at Grant Township
Bring the family out for a day of fun. This Fall Festival features vendors & crafters, food & refreshments, entertainment, inflatables & games, petting zoo and pony rides, hay rides, and more.

9-11 October Great Highwood Pumpkin Fest
Admission: $2 admission, $10 ride wristbands. Help carve a record-breaking amount of pumpkins at Highwood Pumpkin Fest. Watch for more details in October.

10 15th Annual Scarecrow Festival, Memorial Park, Barrington
The free festival will feature pony rides; scarecrow, pumpkin and cookie decorating; and inflatable games for the kids and more.

17 October  – ArtWauk, Waukegan Arts District

18 October – 2nd Annual Family Fest Lehmann Park
Join Busy Brian Children’s Museum at their 2nd annual Fall Family Festival and enjoy pumpkin decorating, carnival games, story time, an obstacle course, music, characters and more!

25 October – CROCtober Fest, Wildlife Discovery Center at Elawa Farm
Admission: recommended $5 donation per person. Come celebrate the world of crocodilians with us! There’ll be face painting, storytelling and other activities for children – craft vendors and other fun for the whole family! Read how much fun Loralie’s Family had in 2013.

30 October – 10th Annual Ray Bradbury Storytelling Festival, Genesee Theatre, Waukegan
Admission: $5 before Oct 1st / $6 after Oct 1st. Celebrate Ray Bradbury’s favorite holiday with some of the most recognized ghost stories, macabre fables, and creepy tales told on the historic Genesee Theatre stage.

November Festivals in Lake County

7 & 8 November- Showcase of Arts & Crafts, Barrington Park District
Mixed media arts and crafts, showcasing artists from the Midwest. The free admission and parking allows the public a unique fair-going experience.
