October 26 is National Pumpkin Day, some fun facts from Punchbowl:

  • Pumpkins can be grown on every continent except Antarctica
  • The largest pumpkin ever recorded was grown in Wisconsin and weighed 1,810 pounds!

So grab your pumpkin spice latte (if that’s your fall drink of choice) and hit up some of these great pumpkin celebrations going on before the season ends!


You can find our full listing of pumpkin farms in Lake County, but readers also suggest you don’t want to miss Country Bumpkin in Mundelein. Located at Gilmer and Hawley in Mundelein its open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Their pumpkinfest includes a Barrel Train, Moonwalk Park, Petting Zoo, Straw maze and gold sifting. Admission is $10 for children over 41″ and $6 for children under 41″ adults are $1.

Pinterest is full of ideas for carving, not carving, and decorating pumpkins but by far the best decorating occurs when you can take your kids  (and the mess!) somewhere else.

  • Great Pumpkin Hunt & Decoration, Raupp Museum Buffalo Grove, Saturday October 25 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., $10 residents $13 for non residents. Call the Museum at 847-85-2100 to register.
