Movin’ and Improvin’: Making Fitness Fun

Melissa and Loralie have partnered with Advocate Condell Medical Center Centre Club to spend the next year working to achieve their health goals. They’ll be documenting their steps to get Movin’ and Improvin’ and be fit by 40. This is not a weight loss series, this is a journey towards health. Read the series introduction to learn more. Today we hear from Loralie…

fitness can be fun

No matter how often you tell yourself that you need to take care of YOU…

No matter how often you tell yourself that gym time is ME time…

No matter how much you progress physically…

Woman Burned Out

Sometimes, hauling your butt to the gym can still feel like drudgery.  When my kids are sick, but I still volunteered to coach, I have a deadline at work, and a contractor is coming by the house, and I still haven’t defrosted the chicken for dinner… well, at these time when my life feels like its crumbling on top of my head, my first instinct is NOT to head for the gym.  My first instinct is to hide!

Move along, nothing to see here…

So, that’s not the healthiest choice obviously–I’m a work in progress. But Centre Club works hard to show its members that fitness can be fun!

Little Lake County wants to help change your perceptions about working out, too. That’s why we partnered with Advocate Condell Medical Center and the Centre Club in Libertyville to host our most recent Moms’ Night Out event: Back-to-Fitness!

Our 80’s-themed retro fitness night helped our readers travel back in time to when we shopped in the junior section for neon and lace (or children’s section…whatevs).  True, there were some of our readers (and writers!) who weren’t even twinkles in their mothers’ eyes in the 80’s, but the appreciation for leg warmers, big hair, and blue eyeshadow is truly timeless.
