Mompreneur Monday: Linda Doyle from Crave Art

*** Editor’s Note: Crave Art Mundelein has closed ***

Mompreneur of the MonthWelcome to Mompreneur Monday, where we introduce you to Mom-Based businesses in Lake County.

Today we are meeting Linda Doyle, owner of Crave Art, located in downtown Mundelein. Linda’s art studio just opened this past June, but you would never know she was just getting started!

Crave Art, Mundelein IL

Art adorns every space in her studio, beautiful paintings that she created,  colorful projects her children completed when she taught, as well as fresh new artwork visitors to her studio have created. She opens her doors to everyone, children and adults, to come in and express themselves through art.  No experience is necessary and she creates a fun, safe environment to work in. Linda put it perfectly when she said, “Everyone has creativity in them”… and she truly believes it.

Linda’s journey began with a degree in Fine Arts, Drawing and Printmaking. She worked with a program called Art Smarts in the Round Lake School District and a Visiting Artist Program in Waukegan. She loved what she was doing, but yearned to create her own curriculum and programs. Her mother fell ill not that long ago,  and right before she passed away, she urged Linda to move forward with her passion and do something great.  Inspired by her mother’s words, she knew that an art studio where she could share her passion with others and encourage others to use their creativity, was what she needed to do. On June 10th, 2013 she opened her doors in downtown Mundelein, and has loved every minute of it! She is constantly coming up with new ways to teach and show others how fun art is.

Beautiful art is everywhere!

Linda says that it was definitely a lot of work to get the doors open, but with the support of friends and family, she did it.  She feels lucky that her children are older, allowing her a little more time to dedicate to the business. It is still hard work though, and she works some long days,  but her family is very supportive and help out in every aspect of the business. She says her daughter is there a lot, and you will most likely meet her if you drop in. Linda doesn’t have much time to relax, but when she does, she loves to go to the Botanic Gardens and just walk around by herself. Not only is it relaxing and peaceful, but she gets inspiration from nature, and feels grounded there.

Crave Art Studio Mundelein

A glimpse inside of Crave Art…Linda’s bright, spacious and friendly studio!

When asked about the name of the business, Crave Art, she says that she had a dream about it one night! The name stands for Creating Respect for Art and Valuing Everyone. It is a perfect theme for a studio that is beyond welcoming and encouraging. Crave Art caters to everyone. She offers classes for children and adults, workshops, as well as some camps for the younger set. You can drop in and do a project too, choosing from a ceramic piece or a canvas art project. She welcomes birthday parties, scouting troops, team building, or any other group looking for a venue to come and create some art. They even host a fun class called SPARTE, which is a class to create art, while learning some Spanish.

Linda loves supporting the community art scene as well. Every two months, she will feature art work from a local, Lake County 2D and 3D artist in her studio. Also, every month, she features a local artist or crafter who is selling their artistic creations. This month, she was featuring another Mundelein Mompreneur Jill Beanz, and all of her colorful headbands and bows. (We featured Eva on a previous Mompreneur Monday and they were one of our 12 shops of Christmas)
