Guide to Lake County Holiday Tree Lightings {2017}

It’s just about that time of year again so get your calendars out to mark down your favorite spot (or more than one!) to see a local Holiday Tree Lighting event. We have rounded up all the various Tree Lighting events in Lake County so you can plan to see your own town’s event or venture out and visit surrounding towns. Most have other family fun activities included so it ought to be a fun and magical time for all.

November Tree Lightings 

18 November 3:00 p.m.  –  Highland Park
Port Clinton Square, Highland Park
The day’s events will feature musical performances with a special appearance by Santa.  In addition there will be a family-friendly scavenger hunt through downtown Highland Park and also a live (and free) performance of the Nutcracker in the store window of Uncle Dan’s.

18 November  2:00 p.m. – Highwood
City Hall Park, 17 Highwood Ave., Highwood
Highwood Holiday Fest includes a Holiday Walk, Sleigh Rides, Camp Fire with S’Mores, Santa’s arrival and tree lighting.

19 November 4:30 p.m.   – Wheeling
Friendship Park, Wheeling
The annual lighting ceremony in the Village is scheduled to place on Sunday, November 19th at Friendship Park, located at the northeast corner of Dundee Road and Milwaukee Avenue.   Stop by for some hot cocoa, and a visit with Santa, and experience the beautiful music and lights turning on to mark the beginning of the Holiday Season.

22 November 4:00 p.m.Deerfield
Deerfield Village Center (Between Starbucks and Bobby’s)
Annual tree lighting celebration will feature free treats and entertainment including the Deerfield High School Brass Players, lights flipped on at 5:00 p.m.

22 November 4:00 p.m.  – Glencoe
Kalk Park, 999 Greenbay Rd., Glencoe
Merry and Bright celebrates the season with the lighting of the Gaebo, games, live music and more. Flashlight treasure hunt for children ages 2-8 begins at 5:45 p.m.

24 November 6:30 p.m. – Antioch
Downtown Antioch to Village Hall
Santa leads the parade which begins on Park Avenue and ends at Village Hall. Afterwards, the tree will be lit. Then Santa will be available for visits immediately after the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Santa’s Enchanted Castle.

24 November 5:00 p.m. – Glencoe
Downtown Glencoe
Light the Village lights with a caroling, a visit from Santa, treats, and more.

24 November 5:30 p.m. – Grayslake
Holiday Tree, Corner of Center and Whitney Street, Grayslake
Head to Downtown Grayslake for the annual Tree Lighting Festival and Holiday Market at 5:30 p.m.  Afterwards,  Santa will be available for visits at the Oasis. There will also be sleigh rides from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., as well as refreshments. The Holiday Market starts at 5:00pm at the Grayslake Museum.

24 November 6:30 – Libertyville
Cook Park, 100-198 W. Church St., Libertyville
Holiday on the Square in Libertyville features tree lighting, pictures with Santa, holiday singing, and shopping at local businesses.

24 November 3:00 p.m. – Lake Forest
1 Market Square, Lake Forest
Come celebrate the 34th annual tree lighting ceremony.  A traditional gathering of friends to the community.

24 November, 6:15 pm- Round Lake Beach
2007 Civic Center Way Round Lake Beach
Evening includes Santa’s arrival, hot chocolate, crafts and more.

25 November 4:30 p.m. – Vernon Hills
Vernon Hills Golf Course, 291 Evergreen Dr., Vernon Hills
Help bring the holiday season in by assisting Mayor Roger Byrne flip the switch to the holiday tree. Bring the family, the neighbors, and the kids out for hot chocolate, cookies, and cider.

25 November 5:00  – Lake Villa
Lehman Park, 89 Cedar Ave., Lake Villa
Lake Villa parade and tree lighting. The parade kicks off from Palombi School at 5:00 p.m. and winds its way through the neighborhoods to downtown Lake Villa, and ends at the train station.  Immediately afterwards, the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Lehmann Park begins.

25 November 5:00 p.m. – Volo
Village Hall, 500 S. Fish Lake Rd., Volo
Annual Christmas tree lighting and community gathering.

December Tree Lightings

1 December 5:00 p.m. – Mundelein
Kracklauer Park, 100 N. Seymour Ave., Mundelein
Come out and enjoy cookies, hot cocoa, caroling, the tree lighting, and fireworks at Mundelein’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.

1 December 6:00 p.m. – Hawthorn Woods
Village Barn, 2 Lagoon Dr., Hawthorn Woods
Usher in the holiday season and see Santa at the Annual Hawthorn Woods Tree Lighting. Event includes Stevenson High School Caroling Choir, arrival of Santa Claus, hot cocoa and cookies while making an ornament for your family tree.

1 December 6:00 p.m. – Round Lake
Village Hall, 442 N. Cedar Lake Rd., Round Lake
Enjoy a visit with Santa and mingle with your community.

2 December 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Lake Zurich
Downtown Lake Zurich at Rotary Park, 7 E Main St., Lake Zurich
Returning again this year will be a beautiful 35 foot tree to be displayed for the holiday season, an opportunity to meet Santa, Mrs. Claus and their reindeer. Event entertainment includes Lake Zurich High School’s Bare Voices and the Academy of Performing Arts, children’s crafts, sleigh rides, adult beverages, and food vendors.

2 December 5:00pm – Barrington
Barrington Village Center, Lake Cook Rd. & Hough St., Barrington
Starting at 10:00 a.m. there will be carriage rides, Santa visits, petting zoo, milk and cookies and more. Tree lighting from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Village Center.

2 December 5:30 p.m. – Lincolnshire
The Village Green, Milwaukee Ave. and Half Day Rd., Lincolnshire
Holiday tree lighting and festivities.

2 December 6:00 p.m. – Wauconda
Wauconda Community Center, 600 N. Main St., Wauconda
Santa will arrive on a fire truck to light the tree and kick off the holiday season with a brief Fireworks display. After Santa arrives, join us in the Community Center for crafts, games, stories and refreshments.

8 December, 6:30 p.m. – Gurnee Mills Mall
Gurnee Mills Mall, 6170 W Grand Ave, Gurnee
Join Gurnee Mills and 102.3 XLC in the Tree Lighting on Friday, December 8 at 6:30PM at the Show Court near Floor & Decor, Entry G.

9 December 5:00 p.m. – Deerfield
Deerfield Towne Center
Event includes Santa’s arrival, tree lighting, arts & crafts, holiday music, carriage rides and more!
