Family Day Trip or Excursion – Volo Auto Museum
The Volo Auto Museum on the west side of the county in Volo, IL is definitely one of the county’s hidden treasures. This week, Suburban Family Magazine released their readers’ choice awards, and the Volo Auto Museum was selected as the #1 place for a Family Day Trip / Excursion. Runners up in the category were, Illinois Railway Museum, Brookfield Zoo, Mid-Continent Railway Museum – North Freedom WI, Morton Arboretum, Blackberry Farms – Aurora, Starved Rock State Park. First off, if you have not heard about Chicago Suburban Family Magazine, it is a family magazine that focuses on places and things to do in the suburbs of Chicago with their readership being moms.
This is fantastic news for Volo Auto Museum and Lake County! Everyone knows about Six Flags Great America, Gurnee Mills, Ravinia, Chicago Botanic Garden and the Chain O’ Lakes, but we have some other great places for kids and families to enjoy their free time. If you have never been to the Volo Auto Museum, I highly recommend it. I have been several times and every time that I go, I find something new and interesting. Now, I know what you are thinking and I thought the same thing at first as well. No, I am not a car guy, so why is this going to be interesting to my wife and I as well as I child when he is old enough?
Well the Volo Auto Museum doesn’t just feature classic cars for sales, but they have a military exhibit which is pretty cool, hundreds of Hollywood cars on display from the Flintstones car that the kids can climb in, to the Scooby Doo Van, to the Batmobile. Now, my wife really enjoyed their new showroom that just opened last year which features cars from their private collection such as, Micheal Jordan’s Car, Brittany Spears car, and the car that Princess Diana rode on one of her visits to the US.
The Volo Auto Museum is definitely worth the trip with the kids when they are off of school and I believe that everyone will have a good time. The price of admission is $13.95 for Adults, Children 5 – 12 $8.95, Seniors (65 and over) $11.95, Veterans and Military with ID card $11.95 and Military in uniform and children under 5 are free. If you would like to save some money, we have have $2 off coupon on our site, VisitLakeCounty.org.
