2014 Kite Festivals in Lake County

Green grass, blue skies, a gentle breeze, Spring is finally here! Time to dust off your sandals and break out the kites and enjoy an afternoon at the park! If you’ve never flown a kite before make this the year you learn! Visit one of these festivals and events where you can do everything from build and fly your own kites to watch professionals  wow the crowd with large kites and stunts.

Kite Festivals in Lake County

Kite Fly & Earth Day Celebration {Lindenhurst}
Saturday April 26 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Lindenhurst Village Hall and Stove Park.
“Flying for Kids” kite fly will begin at the park at 12:00 p.m. The first 50 participants will receive a free kite, or bring your own.  Contact the Park District at (847) 356-60111 for more information.

Family Kite Fly {Vernon Hills}
Saturday April 26 11:00 a.m.
Century Park, 1001 Lakeview Parkway
Bring the family out for a great day of kite flying. Kites will be available through the Vernon Hills Park District for $6 or you can bring your own. Contact the Park District at (847) 996-6800 for more information.

Barrington Kite Fly and Family Nature Fest {Barrington}
Saturday May 3 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Citizens Park, 511 Lake Zurich Road
Learn how to build a kite, then see how far it can fly. Kites are free to kids of all ages (limit one per child) and no registration is necessary. Food will be available for purchase. For more information call (847) 381-0687.

Chicago Kids and Kites Festival {Chicago}
Saturday May 3 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Montrose Harbor
The largest kite festival of them all will include large kite and sport kite flying demonstrations, Other highlights include Free kits for children o design and create their own kite, Kohl’s story bus, Giant Kite Flyer, Face painting, arts and crafts, roaming entertainment and more.

Flying for Kids {Waukegan}
Saturday May 17 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Bevier Park, 2255 W. Yorkhouse Road
Bring a favorite kite tot he park for a flight with family, friends, and neighbors. Kite kits will also be available for children to create their own uniquely decorated kites to fly. Contact the Park District at (847) 360-4700 for more information.

Glenview Park District Kite Day {Glenview}
Saturday May 31 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 
Attea Middle School, 2500 Chestnut Ave.
Children and families bring your kites and demonstrate your flying abilities or get some high-flying tips from experts. “Make your own kite” kits will be available.  Contact the Park District at (847) 724-5670 for more information.

Chicago Botanic Garden Annual Kite Festival {Glencoe}
and Sunday August 9 and 10 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
In the meadows of evening Island enjoy soaring stunt performances set to music by the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois. The days activities also include children’s kite making workshops, demonstrations, public fly time and a kids Mad Dash. Waukegan’s 3rd Annual Friends of Waukegan Kite Fly {Waukegan}
Saturday September 27 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Waukegan municipal Beach, 201 E Sea Horse Dr
Come fly with Chicago Kite/Kite Harbor and the Friends of Waukegan. You will enjoy amazing kite stunts, tricks and slips as well as Super Large Kites by Mike Holl and Wisconsin Kiters.

Village of Antioch Family Kite Fly {Antioch}
Sunday September 28 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Tim Osmond Sports Complex
