With a calendar full of so many great activities, how do you decide which ones are worth putting on the calendar in pen? Well we’re here to help with our monthly feature, the Little Lake County Top Ten – Ten Must-Do Events in Lake County this month. Here are our picks for Must-Do Events for Families this June.

1.      Children’s Health & Safety Fair,  June 3 
Join Northwestern Healthcare at the Grayslake Outpatient Center. Event will feature public safety vehicles, Flight-for-Life helicopter, teddy bear and bike helmet giveaways, and more.

2.     National Children’s Day Festival- June 11 
Art4Kids presents this fairy tale-themed family event to promote children’s rights, health and happiness worldwide and to benefit Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Day will include children’s performances, arts & crafts, train rides, pony rides, petting zoo, characters and more.

3.     Kids Rockin’ the Park – Miss Jamie’s Farm – June 13
One of our favorite kindie crooners, Miss Jamie, will be bringing her farmyard friends to sing and dance with your littles at Mallard Ridge Park in Lindenhurst.  Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks for this FREE concert.

Our annual summer playdate series returns for the fourth year in a rowand we can’t wait to hit the road to Rock The Playground with Advocate Condell Medical CenterWe’re gonna rock ‘n roll on the swings and party in the sand box.  Come out and jam with us dudes!

  • June 14 Cynthia T. Peterson Park, Vernon Hills with special guests Hot Ground Gym and Busy Brains Children’s Museum
  • June 28 Towline Park, Lake Forest with special guests Gorton Community Center and Busy Brains Children’s Museum

5.     Libertyville Days Festival – June 16-18
Bring out the family and enjoy carnival rides, food, beer tent, arts and crafts, a parade, live entertainment, and much, much more.

6.     Mundelein Park District’s Community Picnic – June 17 
Enjoy good ol’ fun for all ages at the Mundelein Park District’s FREE Community Picnic. Spend time with neighbors and friends on the expansive sandy beach at scenic Diamond Lake.  Go for a swim, take a spin on a paddle boat, build a sand castle, navigate the floating SportsPark, try you luck at games, and top it off with an evening of water thrills from the Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team!  Read our story about the Wonder Lake Water Ski Show to learn more.

Wizards.weekend.com7.     Wizards Weekend – June 17 & 18 
Wizards, Witches and Muggles alike will gather in Downtown Antioch, IL for their 1st annual Wizards Weekend. Event will feature Kids Hogwarts School of Magic, Magical Attire Contests, Wizard & Muggle Craft Fair, TriWizards Chess Tournament, Scavenger Hunt and Horcruz Search and more.

8.     Long Grove Strawberry Festival – June 23 -25 
Long Grove Strawberry Fest, which includes a broad array of bands, art, shopping, family activities, food and yes, strawberries too! Admission is $5 per person per day, children 12 and younger are free.

9.     Families on the Fairway – June 24
Activities for the whole family, including access to the driving range, tips from golf pros, a putt putt course for kids, giant miniature golf, remote controlled vehicles, a face painter, an ice cream social, and a variety of  games! The event is free and open to the public. Food and adult beverages will be available for purchase at the Club House.

10.     Summer Funfest – June 25
Families can try out a morning at the Elaine Frank Apachi J Camp in Lake Zurich on the Lake County JCC campus.  Experience many of the activities offered at camp for FREE and meet the staff. There’s something for family members of all ages — art, sports, swimming (in heated pools) and more. Highlights include climbing the 30-foot tower and exploring  the Garoon Gateway to Science — one of the few opportunities this unique, hands-on outdoor science park is open to the public.  Learn more in Explore Science Outdoors at the Garoon Gateway to Science {Lake Zurich}.

Camp LLC runs through August 18 and will include optional membership to a private Facebook Group to share ideas, comments and plan playdates.
